Summary: Obama Campaign asks Obama supporters not protest outside of the hotel where the DNC Rules and By-Laws Committee will meet on Saturday, May 31, 2008. The meeting will be broadcast live on CSPAN. Volunteer for your local voter registration drive.
Don't Demonstrate, Register Voters As promised, I faxed the Obama Campaign requesting an official response to emails and blogs telling Obama supporters not to protest outside the DNC Rules and By-Laws Meeting on May 31st in Washington, DC.
I got a call today from Emily Jacobson of the Obama Campaign Political Department. She said the Obama Campaign requests we do not protest outside the meeting with Clinton supporters.
Unless you have a ticket to observe the meeting, the Obama campaign asks you not to demonstrate outside. You can watch the meeting live on CSPAN or join a voter registration in your area.
My Opinion
Take a walk in Clinton supporter shoes. How might you be feeling? We can't blame Hillary and Bill Clinton's choices on her supporters. Now is the time for unity, not a chaotic protest bound to attract "outside agitators"* poised to make trouble.
How to Watch the DNC Meeting
I just spoke with the DNC on Wednesday. Here's how you can participate, if you do not currently have a ticket/pass...
1. Show up early (if I could make it, I'd stay in the hotel or arrive by 4am) to get in line for a same day pass/ticket to be in the meeting or to observe the meeting from an overflow room inside the hotel;
2. If you are a guest, you can watch it on TV's the hotel will set up; and
3. Stay home and watch the live broadcast on c-Span or via a live stream on the democrats.org web site.
4. Ignore the meeting. Register new voters!

* An outside agitator, is not a supporter of either candidate. They may show up to gawk or try to start trouble.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT I have it on good authority that at Saturday's rules committee meeting in DC . there will be people who say that they are Obama supporters fighting with Clinton supporters who will be Clinton plants just to grab the cameras. We were told by the Obama campaign to stay away from the rules comm. and not give people reason to see the democrats in this divisive mode. There are supposed to be Republican plants there also. What desperation! Elaine LaMagna

Thanks for the heads up.
How sad is it that I do believe without a doubt that Clinton would stoop to this?
Axelrod took some heat yesterday from the pundits with a statement about this, specifically addressing the fact they had called on local supporters to volunteer for registration drives--I believe what raised the eyebrows was something like--"look, with one click of the mid-Atlantic mouse, we could have thousands of people there." Thats not exact--but pretty close.
And they could.
I am glad they had to foresight to address this before it turned into a free for all....
Good advice Jackie. Also, I really like your icon, it isn't often I see the Episcopal Church advertised :) We had a beautiful Corpus Christi this past Sunday.
I think Obama should be pushing for them to count the delegates. Even if they counted all of them and give Obama the undecided vote in Michigan Hillary still needs 75% of the remaining delegates to win. Not gonna happen. It will be interesting to see what happens, I believe they have to vote unanimously, and don't forget that Ickes is on the committee, he will derail anything that gives Obama that undecided vote in Michigan is my bet.
The gentleman who reminded reporters we were only a mouse click away, was being frank. If Obama can attract 75,000 in Oregon, a massive crowd in Washington, DC is simple. What if he'd said, "Guys, this is Washington, DC home of wealthy elites, advanced degreed professionals, liberal students and BLACK PEOPLE. Forget my mouse, I'll just holler." Now that would be bragging, he only spoke the truth.
Ain't that the truth.
One email and the National Mall would be packed within the hour with more on the way.
